A splendid passionate novel set against the turmoil of the Siege of Gibraltar of 1774. Rich in historical detail Siege! combines romance and intrigue in an original adventure. Many dangers surround the young lovers Rebecca and Lorenzo not least their cultural differences and their families' disapproval. Rebecca is the clever vivacious daughter of a rabbi and Lorenzo is the young catholic captain of his family's flotilla of trading ships. As the French join forces with the Spanish in their bid to capture the Rock, Rebecca and Lorenzo continually face starvation or enemy attack. Taking Rebecca onboard Lorenzo bravely tries to run the blockage and risks his life to bring back food to the starving people of the Rock. Entwined with the tragic story of the young lovers are other tales of the Rock's heroic residents, the actions of one in particular are to have far reaching consequences.
