SIGNED BY AUTHOR, CATHERIENE JACOBS, WITHOUT DEDICATION OR INSCRIPTION, ON 'TITLE-PAGE. There is a SMALL CIRCULAR STICKER ON FRONT OF DUSTWRAPPER WHICH READS 'SIGNED/COPY'. Illustrated with photographs. As a small child, Catherine Jacobs, lived in east London with her father, mother and brother surrouded by friends and relatives and the comfort of routine and stability. As a small she had to be driven home again in expensive taxis 'now!'. On her first day at school, at the age of four, she carried a cardboard bow as a comforter and tried to climb over the gate across the bottom half of the classroom door, screaming 'I want to go home!'. During the war, she won a scholarship to a secondary school that had been evacuated and begged to be allowed to board there. Within a week she had to be fetched home, to spend nights in the Anderson shelter in the garden as the Blitz raged over London. She trained to become a primary school teacher at Christ Church College; Canterbury and lived in that city with her family for forty years. There are two short tears 11mm and 3mm to the top of the front flap of the d/w; else a fine copy of a SCARCE first edition, first printing SIGNED BY AUTHOR, CATHERINE JACOBS.
