Bernard C Hilton was born in the Lancashire town of Rochdale in 1921. He joined the Rugby works of the British Thomson Houston Company at the age of 15 as a Shop Floor Operator, and worked his way up to become a Production Engineer until the late 1940s. In the 1950s, Hilton became a Management Consultant with Urwick Orr and Partners. Over the next thirty years, he was involved at Senior Executive level in a number of prominent engineering companies and retired as Chief Executive and Chairman of companies in 1986 to form the consultancy body of Bernard Hilton and Partners. Hilton now lives in Sheffield.
