Synopsis

The book of Romans has been influential in critical moments of the Christian church history. In the early church, Paul's words in this book were the means of the conversion of Augustine. During the Protestant Reformation they particularly influenced Martin Luther and John Calvin. Later, in the evangelical revival of the eighteenth century, they changed the lives of George Whitefield and John Wesley. But it is not only those who have become leaders in the church who have been affected by the epistle to the Romans. Ordinary Christians, too, have lived transformed lives as a result. People have often turned to the letter to the Church in Rome because Paul clearly sets out a theological framework for us to understand. It is a comprehensive description of the way that God offers salvation to humankind - and it is 'Good News'.

Revue de presse

I don't know of another single resource on Paul's epistle to the Romans that is more useful for pastors or for general audiences. I used The Gospel Of God extensively when preparing for my year-long sermon series on Romans. Own it. Read it. Return to it often. --Daniel Montgomery, Senior Pastor, Sojourn Community Church, Louisville, Kentucky

Sproul has given the reader an excellent, easy to read, six-page summary of the epistle that whets the appetite to read on... This book reflects Sproul's gift of making the Bible easier to understand for laymen and teachers. --Equip for Ministry, Magazine for the Presbyterian Church of America

It was no accident that the Reformers, Luther and Calvin, each wrote the first two of their many Bible commentaries on Romans and the Psalms. The Church today evidences its great need of massive doses of the truths of Romans. R C Sproul and Christian Focus have done us a great favour in making the content of Romans more available to a wider audience. You will find this book a great tonic for your soul. --David Cook, Retired Principal, Sydney Missionary and Bible College, Sydney, Australia
