I joined the Health Service Journal in April 2012 after working as a health correspondent on a regional daily in the West Midlands. As the Health and Social Care Act had just become law it was vital for me to get up to speed on the new NHS landscape and policy universe which had not been previously been my focus. The NHS Handbook was invaluable reading, it answered many questions, and is still a vital tool I often refer back too. The NHS Handbook 2012 is a very easy-to-read resource which describes the 'ins and outs' of the NHS as we know it today. I found it useful as a trainee physicians since it gave me an accurate insight into the healthcare system that I am working in. The handbook is organised into 'easy-to-follow' chapters, starting with the new structure of the NHS and ending with the NHS in Europe.
