VENIKA MEHRA KINGSLAND was born and brought up in India in a privileged, traditional, Hindu family. Her mother, Radhika, is both a devotee and, with nearly ninety years of study, one of the widest read of Hindu women. Through her mother, Venika was able to know, and learn from, many of the most significant Hindu figures of the twentieth century, including Poddarji, creator of Gita Press, Swami Ranganathananda, President of Ramakrishna Math, Swami Chinmayananda, and Swami Digvijayanath of Gorakshanatha Math.
During the 1960s Venika helped renew Indian interest in yoga when she taught leading film stars and wrote for popular magazines. In the 1970s, Dr Ramamurti Mishra, Sanskritist and neurosurgeon, and Sri Navajata, Chairman of the Aurobindo Society, wrote forewords to Complete Hatha Yoga and Hathapradipika, which she co-authored with her husband. In addition, Venika was co-founder of the Centre for Human Communication in both the UK and USA.

Paperback. Etat : Good. A comprehensive and accessible introduction to one of the world's oldest and most complex religions, 'The Simple Guide to Hinduism' by Venika Kingsland offers readers a clear understanding of its core tenets and unique characteristics. Published in 1997 by Global Books, this paperback edition is presented in good condition. The book delves into Hinduism's profound nature, emphasizing its estimated 800 million followers, primarily concentrated in the Indian sub-continent. Kingsland highlights the religion's extraordinary aspects, such as its unknown origin point and the absence of a single charismatic founder. A fascinating demographic insight is also provided, discussing the significant presence of Indian immigrants in the UK, including the largest groups of Punjabi Sikhs and Gujarati Hindus, and estimating the total Hindu population in Britain at 320,000. This volume serves as an excellent resource for anyone seeking to understand the intricate spiritual landscape of Hinduism and its contemporary global footprint. This is not a first edition.
