Pathetic, contrite and hapless, Benjamin is nonetheless the scapegoat at The Store: there is nothing for which he cannot be blamed. While his blunders remain minor, most of his unwitting victims can find it in their hearts to forgive him, but when violent explosions begin to follow him around, he inevitably becomes the prime suspect. With his girlfriend Julie by his side, Benjamin thrusts himself into uncovering the mystery, delving deep into underground Paris and pursuing the truth through a maze of bizarre criminality and oppressive shadows.
DANIEL PENNAC was born in Casablanca in 1944, his father being in the army. He travelled widely in his youth, in Europe, Asia and Africa, and has been employed in a number of capacities, including woodcutter, Paris cab driver, illustrator and schoolteacher. His "Belleville Quintet", written round the character of Benjamin Malaussène, has been published in many languages.

DESCRIPTION - The second Benjamin Malaussne novel set in Paris's explosive Belleville quarter. His title is Quality Controller, but Benjamin's function at The Store is scapegoat for the impatience, sometimes the rage, of the customers. So sweet is his nature, so eloquent his contrition, that most of the indignant and mis-used victims withdraw their complaints. But there is also the little matter of the bombs that keep exploding very close to where Benjamin is standing. Suspicion falls on him, even as he and his voluptuous mistress have begun to unearth an even deeper mystery, a sinister and sordid conspiracy whose unravelling will expose yet one more seam in the dark heart behind the beguiling veneer of contemporary Paris. Daniel Pennac's novels of life in the Belleville Arab quarter, which began with The Fairy Gunmother, are as funny as Damon Runyon's stories, as thrilling as Raymond Chandler's novels, and as wild as the best of Carl Hiaasen. With The Scapegoat, Pennac has once again struck just the right balance. inventory #25671. N° de réf. du vendeur z25671
