Excellent good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Private giftinscription on titlepage and endpaper. At the time of his death Tuohy's remarkable body of work was recognised by his peers and critics alike. His reputation only began to decline in the second half of the century, when a new generation of artists and patrons looked increasingly to the changing styles and techniques of the international avant garde. When the first ROSC exhibition of modern and ancient art was held in Dublin in the late sixties, it gave a new focus to contemporary art in Ireland, and artists of the past, such as Tuohy faded into the background. Today it is a salutary lesson to retrieve the commentary on Tuohy's work by the foremost critics of his day and to bring together a more recent record of critical appreciation, and one that indisputably places Tuohy among the masters of irish art.
