Synopsis
Focusing on the working model of HMS Warrior, this book explains in detail all the materials, skills and techniques needed for miniature replication. The Warrior embodies a variety of shipmodelling skills, as she incorporates a myriad of characteristics; steam and sail propulsion and laid decks. The working model was constructed on the traditional shipbuilder's scale of 1:48, and embodies all the varied skills which a shipmodeller requires to construct a first-class scratch-built ship. Warrior, designed during a period of rapid change in the world's navies, incorporates a myriad of characteristics for the modeller - an iron hull, laid decks, both steam and sail propulsion, a hoisting propeller, lowering funnels, a mass of both conventional and breach-loading ordnance, a traditional figurehead and gilded galleries, and a whole array of ship's boats. Equally varied are the materials and skills required to build such a complex vessel.
