The first Maori team to travel oversesa was selected in 1888 and it began the legends that surrounded the Maori game. The arrival of the professional era for the formerly largely amateur game in the 1990s created difficulties for Maori rugby and even threatened its survival. Enter Matt Te Pou, Vietman vet and coach of the Maori team from 1995. In this book he studies the problems faced in restoring the team to star status over the decade from 1995 to 2005, during which the team was unbeaten over seven seasons, eventually winning 36 of the 40 games played in that time. His own insights into the game. on and off the field, are supported and enhanced by players he coached, many of them who were also All Blacks. There is much that is new about rugby in this book. 244 pages including match statistics at back. 71 photos, the majority in colour. Pictorial card covers NF, likewise the text block no inscriptions.
