This scarce, privately published book brings together a fascinating collection of images and supporting text relating to life and architecture mainly in Tower Hamlets, but also in Hackney and Newham over the last 150 years: illustrations from old periodicals, prints and drawings and contrasting work by living twentieth century artists. Here are extraordinary pictorial evocations of street markets, lodging houses, soup kitchens, taverns and missions, schools, hospitals, churches, parks and street scenes, including many interior views. Here in this feast of pictures is an East london which is often haunting and strange, yet always very much alive. Ref CC1. N° de réf. du vendeur 020975
