Synopsis

The Book of Esther gives us a wonderful view of God's providence. In particular, it shows how God rules and defends his Church in times of great adversity. This is a very readable study of Esther's life, and clearly shows us many practical lessons for Christian living. This is particularly useful in our day, when the Church is assailed by many enemies.

Thomas McCrie (1772-1835) was a notable minister of the Secession Church in Edinburgh, and he remains well known as the biographer of Reformers such as John Knox. He was also known as a warm-hearted pastor, and this aspect of his ministry is clearly seen in his discourses about Esther.
