What does it take to become a top poker player who regularly plays in some of the largest stakes games offered in the Las Vegas Poker Rooms and elsewhere? Of course, everyone s story is a little different. But one of the more unique and interesting ones belongs to poker pro and businessman Eli Elezra. The text begins with Eli taking his seat at the final table of the 2004 Mirage Poker Showdown Tournament which was part of the World Poker Tour, and which Eli wins for just over $1 million. But the real story begins a little later when we read about Eli s childhood in a rough Jerusalem neighborhood, and from there to fighting in the 1982 Israeli/Lebannon War, to gutting salmon on an assembly line at a cannery in Alaska, to becoming a regular in some of the highest stakes poker games ever played in Las Vegas and elsewhere, and some of his other tournament play and success, as well as the many downturns that a life in poker has to offer. In addition, we get to meet many people along the way, including some of the most famous poker players of all time, including Chip Reese and Doyle Brunson, as well as discussion of many of the key poker hands that Eli played throughout the years. If you re a poker player, this should be a fascinating read. And if you don t play poker, after reading Eli s life story, you ll probably want to become one.
