A concise account of his life and works as a theologian and hymnographer, together with an analysis of his superb Paschal (Easter) Canon, which is presented both in the original Greek language and in precise English translation. This work had its origin in a lecture which was delivered at the Maliotis Cultural Center of Hellenic College/Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts in 1978. The lecture appears in the present volume in its original form, except for occasional editorial improvements, and with the addition of several icons of St. John Damascene, a photograph of the Monastery of St. Savvas in Jerusalem, where Damascene dwelt as a monk and wrote his works, a selection of hymns from the Service to St. John, a Bibliography, an Index of Proper Names, and an Index of Subjects. This book is addressed to all persons interested in religion, particularly in Orthodox Christianity. 2010. 68 pp., 9 illus.
