"Sweetie, I'm so glad you're here! I'm afraid I've gotten myself into a little mess, and I just don't know where to go from here." You don't have to be Southern to enjoy this book. You don't have to be Southern to recognize that problems exist in mother/daughter relationships. You certainly don't have to be Southern to know that even though all else in your life comes to a complete halt once you have spewed that precious, tiny demon child from your loins, the little twit will turn on you like a duck on a June bug. I don't know why this happens. I just know that it does. If your beloved daughter hasn't turned on you yet, look around at your friends. See what has happened to them? Okay, then, I guess you're next. Sadie, the main character, is witty, foul-mouthed, flirtatious and fed-up. She struggles to live her life with a husband she despises. However, it is not the southern way to struggle quietly. Therefore, Sadie drags daughter, best friend and anyone else who will listen into her drama, and there's plenty of it. There is an assumed assassination attempt made on her husband, a state Senator, after which Sadie diligently, yet angrily awaits his recovery...until she is shot in the parking lot of the hospital hotel. Ultimately, after years of ineffective attempts to live a happy life, Sadie is given that chance as she rids herself of yet another husband this time reaping the monetary security and the solitude she has desired her entire life.
