You’re not ready for this book—yet—and this is neither personal nor considered opinion. On any number of days as I was composing and writing the prayers for Prayers (on the way) to the Last God, this second volume in the Adoration in Secret collection, it occurred to me that perhaps our own deeper look into what must be unforgotten requires “definition” from a post-metaphysical stance. What is ready- or present-to-hand is useless, perhaps even untrustworthy for this task. For what is herein occurring is a moving away from metaphysical notions, the ready- and present-to-handness of our so-called relationship(s) to what we perceive and conceive to be (the) divine. That is what makes this particular volume both so uncommon—and incredibly difficult to write, much less pray—despite the fact that after thirty-five years it both only could and also needed to be written, requiring our meditative attention and reflection.
