The key elements of polls - design, sampling, interviewing, questionnaires and data analysis, are highlighted. The book then provides a measuring stick by which to interpret polls and a diagnostic list of common problems in poll construction and presentation. This edition has been updated throughout, particularly to include data on the 1996 elections.

Michael Traugott is professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies, University of Michigan, and current president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. Paul Lavrakas is professor of journalism and communication, of public policy and management, and of sociology, at Ohio State University. He is author of Telephone Survey Methods the standard text for the past two decades.
