Renal System is one of eight books in the Integrated Medical Sciences (IMS) Series from Fence Creek Publishing . Designed for first– and second–year medical students, they are ideal for use as textbooks, course supplements, or board preparation. The books in the IMS Series focus on the integration of core biomedical concepts and provide insight into the application of basic principles and processes to clinical medicine. Books in the IMS Series share common features and formats that include: One or more clinical cases integrated throughout the chapters to foster direct application of clinical problem–solving skills. Extensive use of margin notes to concisely highlight important concepts, define key terms, and pinpoint clinical correlations. Questions at the end of each chapter, using the NBME format, to offer a means for accurate self–assessment.
Review from the authors
Students typically find renal function one of the most difficult physiological systems to comprehend. There is no question that the kidney is consideraly more conceptual than most organ systems. In addition, the quantitative nature of many of these concepts can be confusing. Based on our collective teaching experiences to date therefore, we have attempted to develop a textbook that will make the kidney less intimidating and therfore more understandable, particulary for medical students. Although the fundamental content is similar to that of several excellent texts that are already available, we have incorporated several unique aspects into this new book.
