These unique contemporary tellings of the life and history of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá shed seldom seen light on the Perfect Exemplar of the Bahá’í way of life.
Myron Phelps’s Life and Teachings of Abbas Effendi, originally published in 1903, is a classic of Bahá’í literature. This book reprints the first six chapters of that volume that contain what is still one of the most moving and intimate memoirs of the Master. Recorded with tender devotion are the daily life and habits of the Master–his service to humanity, his love and tolerance, his crushing workday, and even his gait, gestures, and the food that he ate.
The heart of the book, however, is the interviews with Abdu'l-Baha's sister, the Greatest Holy Leaf. Her words are as simple and direct as they are powerful and moving. Her narrative provides a view of Bahá’í history.
Marzieh Gail’s new foreword provides neccessary context of the historical circumstances surrounding Phelps’s visit to ‘Akká and the publication of this book.
