This book works in tandem with audio examples that can be downloaded form the internet, which will greatly aid in the absorption of information and the building of skill. Exercises for each string are presented in all keys. The book culminates in a final section which integrates playing on all four strings. This book is a required text at New York Universities and Princeton University Music department.

Biographie de l'auteur

Bruce Arnold is from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. His educational background started with 3 years of music study at the University of South Dakota; he then attended the Berklee College of Music where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in composition. During that time he also studied privately with Jerry Bergonzi and Charlie Banacos. Mr. Arnold has taught at some of the most prestigious music schools in America, including the New England Conservatory of Music, Dartmouth College, Berklee College of Music, Princeton University and New York University. He is a performer, composer, jazz clinician and has an extensive private instruction practice.

Along with writing music educational books Mr. Arnold has been forging a different take on jazz by combining jazz improvisation techniques with 20th Century Compositional methods. Whether in a jazz or classical setting his playing remains intellectual yet fiery. The Los Angles Times has said that "Arnold's music never loses its contact with jazz and he deserves credit for his effort to expand the potential of the jazz palette." Bruce's 3rd CD release (February 2002) "Give 'em Some" further explores these possibilities. Along with his Trio, Mr. Arnold currently performs with Harvie S and "Eye Contact," Roberta Piket's "Alternating Curents," "Jamie Begian Group." He also performs with the Absolute Ensemble under the baton of Kristjan Järvi. Bruce is the author of 42 books on music education and offers a free interactive online music workshop on the Internet.
