This memoir captures the work-life and dreams of a struggling farm boy who entered the Alberta oil scene in its infancy in the mid-1940s. For George Ward, there was always a rainbow to chase and the dream of a pot of gold at the end of it. Like many of his intrepid oil buddies, George was doggedly determined, in some cases against all odds to learn, prosper, and ultimately win. The “Patch” of today bears little resemblance to its roots, and yet much of what exists today is due to the early foresight and contribution of oil pioneers such as George Ward, his partners, and his family. His legacy will live on.
