Covering recent technological and planning advances, these essays cover the last three years of Mars Society meetings and discuss such topics as habitat infrastructure, exploration technique, and colony organisation as they have been explored at the Mars Society's Analog Research Stations at Devon Island, Nunavuit in Canada and in Hanksville, Utah. Two short videos, Stepping Stones to Mars and Robert Zubrin's testimony before the Senate Committee on Commerce at the Hearings on the Future of the US Space Program, are featured on the included CD-ROM.

Dr. Frank Crossman is the coauthor of "On to Mars," a former director of materials and structures research and development at Lockheed Martin, and a member of the National Research Council's National Materials Advisory Board. He lives in Palo Alto, California. Dr. Robert Zubrin is the author of "The Case for Mars," "Entering Space," "First Landing," "The Holy Land," and "Mars on Earth." He is the founder of the Mars Society and Pioneer Astronautics and a former senior engineer at Lockheed Martin. He lives in Indian Hills, Colorado.
