This is an insightful exploration of how renowned artist Eli Bornstein places the sensory experience of colour, light and structure at the heart of his artistic practice. Best-known for his Structuralist reliefs, American-born Canadian painter, Eli Bornstein, has maintained an active practice going back nearly five decades. Bornstein's early work was based on nature, later incorporating abstract and Cubist techniques. Over the course of his career, Bornstein's works have progressed in complexity and the reliefs exhibit subtle shifts in colour under changing light conditions. This monograph contextualizes the artist's latest works in relation to both early Modernist movements and the current revival of perceptual and experiential art, while also calling attention to Bornstein's achievement as editor and publisher of Canada's longest-running art journal. The Structurist (1960-2010).
