Synopsis

Tony visits his great-aunt, Sarah, at a residential care facility for the elderly and is surprised to find that her memory seems to have gone completely in the few months since he has seen her. She gets him on his own and explains that she is faking the problem to avoid being murdered by members staff she believes to be spies and terrorists. However, Dr. Ross, the head of the clinic, appears to be a normal physician and Sarah's favourite nurse, Carol, turns out to have been Tony's lover at university. Dr. Ross, suspecting Tony to be an impostor, sends for the police and Sergeant Bell questions Tony and Sarah. At first, she refuses to confirm Tony's account of her behaviour, but she finally relents and repeats her allegations about the staff. When she fails to convince the two men, she takes matters into her own hands and persuades Carol to help her in setting a trap for Dr. Ross. The nurse pretends to agree, but secretly warns her employer of the situation. Tony and Bell happen to arrive just in time to rescue Sarah from an attempt by Ross to kill her. Carol overhears something that makes her wonder whether has done the right thing, and arrives just in time to convince Sarah that she didn't realise she was helping in the attempted murder. She confirms that Sarah's accusation was well-founded; Ross is, in fact, an impostor using the clinic to steal money from patients to finance terrorist activities.

Keith Slater was born in England and received his doctorate in textile engineering from Leeds University before taking up an appointment at the University of Guelph in Canada, where he is now Professor Emeritus in Engineering. As part of his academic duties, he has published 18 text books and about 350 scientific articles, and presented 150 conference papers in many parts of the world. He is a recipient of the Warner Medal, the world's most prestigious award for published textile research, and holds six patents. His extramural writing activities have produced six novels, over 100 short stories and 25 plays. He has been director or actor in about 150 productions, and has served in an administrative or technical capacity in a dozen local or international textile or theatrical organisations.
