Hardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. Partridge, Brian (illustrateur). 1994 Anglo-Saxon Books large format hardcover edition. Some reading wear else good condition. From the dustjacket: This book looks at the early North European tribes and their mythology. It traces the process by which some of those tribes journeyed to Britain and established the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms that were to merge and become England. During the seventh and succeeding centuries many of those people were converted to Christianity. Their rich heathen heritage, which extolled loyalty, generosity, vigour and independence, was not suppressed by the new religion. The arrival of Christianity brought many changes but, as elsewhere in Northern Europe, it did not mark a sharp break with the past; instead heathen laws, festivals, magical practices and folk traditions were assimilated into the Christian way of life. Traces of those heathen attitudes, customs and institutions are still with us. N° de réf. du vendeur N8-UO54-G7Q5
