Orlando Ricardo Menes was born in Peru to Cuban parents. He has lived most of his life in Florida, and considers himself a Cuban American. He holds a B.A. and an M.A. in English from the University of Florida. In 1998 he received a Ph.D in Creative Writing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His first collection, Borderlands with Angels, won the 1994 Bacchae Press Chapbook Contest. He works as an Assistant Professor in English at the University of Dayton, and is also a published translator of Latin American poets such as Alfonsina Stoni and Jose Kozer.
