A showcase of innovative work by the graduates of the School of Engineering and Design at Brunel University, with contributions from international partner institutions and leading thinkers. Building on the reputation of its predecessors Innovation 2006 and Making Our Mark 2007, Made in Brunel 2008 continues to enhance the international reputation of Brunel s School of Engineering and Design, already celebrated as a centre of excellence for applied engineering and design in Europe. The focus this year is on bringing a level of consistency and warmth to the project and conveying how all those participating communicate with each other to tell their own stories. The 2008 team has demonstrated that they are capable of identifying and sensitively resolving some of today s most pressing human, environmental and commercial problems. Their ideas, projects and personalities are being presented through an exhibition, a website (www.madeinbrunel.com) and this publication. Made in Brunel 2008 presents a wide range of projects including Daffodil Phototherapy: a Neonatal Jaundice Management System for use in hospital or at home; Spiri: an organic air purifier that utilises the natural air filtering processes performed by the micro organisms surrounding plant roots; and WaterCycle: a human powered water purifier for the developing world. The engineers and designers featured here will shortly be providing solutions that lead to new businesses, services and products. Made in Brunel 2008 is your first chance to meet them and see what the future may have in store.
