Mel Spence grew up in Porthtowan, Cornwall and was at her happiest swimming in the sea. She studied Art and Design at Falmouth College, then got a 1st Class Honours degree at the University of Westminster in Radio Broadcasting and Production. She then worked for various companies in London, mostly in Media Rights and Licence Management, but her real love was yoga and she made several visits to India where she got various qualifications as a yoga instructor. Her final 2 years were in Brighton, where she again swam every day, wrote the third book of poems, and decorated pebbles. She died on 2 November 2019, aged 39.
