Synopsis

Updated for the first time in nearly a decade, The Horticultural Show Handbook is the essential RHS reference for organising, judging and competing in horticultural or gardening shows. First published in 1953, the seventh edition contains several improvements: New for 2008: - The RHS vegetable judging guidelines have been brought in line with those of the National Vegetable Society (NVS). - The roses section now follows Royal National Rose Society (RNRS) guidelines. - Other specialist societies consulted include: the National Chrysanthemum Society, British Fuchsia Society, National Dahlia Society and the National Sweet Pea Society. Wherever possible, their guidelines were adopted. - The language has been modernised. - The book is more user-friendly and relevant to small, amateur shows. - A new section 'How to Stage a Flower Show' will help those who have not organised a flower show before. - Expert 'Advice to Judges' comments have been included where appropriate. - Many adjustments stem from user feedback.

Revue de presse

Undoubtedly The Horticultural Show Handbook published by the Royal Horticultural Society is the bible for every vegetable judge and no judge, however good he may think he is, should attend a judging appointment without one. It is also in my opinion a must for every exhibitor because within it's [...] pages are suggestions to exhibitors regarding how every vegetable should be selected as well as how they should be prepared properly for showing. This way, if both exhibitor and judge learn the same rules and guidelines, any up and coming young novice should be able to place an exhibit on the table that will be within the parameters that the judge should be looking for. --MedwynsOfAnglesey.co.uk
