Synopsis

Falconry is growing as one of the most popular and exciting of field sports and it appeals to an increasingly wide following both in Europe and throughout North America. This book is specifically designed for those new to the sport and covers the basics from the different types of bird and their individual characteristics to acquiring the equipment and the care and handling of the birds themselves. A major section of the book covers all aspects of training, hunting and maintenance and, allied to numerous outstanding illustrations, this book will become a standard manual for future generations of falconers.

À propos des auteurs

Tony Hall (1944–2015) wrote Falconry Basics in 2003 as guide for anyone, including those with no experience at all of the countryside and field sports, to the noble art of falconry. He was editor of the British Hawking Association's journals, and became a champion for creating access to the sport of falconry for anyone. He wanted others to experience the unique partnership of falconer and hawk and the connection with nature which that can bring.

Dr Michael (Mike) Nicholls has been an active falconer since 1968. He was involved in the development and promotion of the first nationally recognised awards for falconry best practice. Mike is a co-opted member of the Hawk Board education sub-committee, and a former editor of the British Falconers' Club Journal and Newsletter. He has written extensively for scientific journals and popular falconry books and magazines.

Tom Dutton has extensive veterinary experience of working with exotic species, especially raptors and reptiles. He regularly lectures on all aspects of exotic animal medicine and care, and supervises the only UK-based European College of Zoological medicine avian residency programme, helping to train the specialists of the future.

Derek Hartshorne is Director of The Raptor Awards.
