On 27 March 1871 Frederick Stokes led England out at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh for the first rugby union international. That Scotland defeated the visitors is a matter of record but since that landmark date England have played over 600 capped matches and 121 players have followed in Stokes' footsteps.
