Long overdue history of the locomotives of the NCC, a significant part of the LMS empire in Ireland. Tracing the history back to 1847, he describes every NCC locomotive built between then and 1970. It covers steam, diesel and railcars and is illustrated with 272 black and white photographs and 47 drawings.

William Scott has been a lifelong railway enthusiast and in particular a student of NCC locomotives. He came of a railway family, the grandson of a BNCR stationmaster. He has written several articles for various railway magazines on Irish locomotive design and performance. He has also built several models of BNCR and GS&WR locomotives, which ran on the layout of the late Drew Donaldson. Apart from the study of steam locomotives of many countries, his main interests are golf, rugby and cricket.

Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. 32 line drawings of locomotives and railcars, some tables and logs of runs. Good descriptive captions. Bill Scott was THE Authority (maybe next to Harold Houston) on the locomotives of the LMS (Northern Counties Committee). Bill knew just about everyone on the NCC, so there are plenty of anecdotes regarding the operation and performance of a remarkable collection of locomotives on a railway which was mainly single track. In 1939 it was running the only train in Ireland timed at a mile a minute. An exceptional book. In very good condition, clean and unmarked. N° de réf. du vendeur 2601020
