Synopsis
At the age of 44, Sean Godsell (b. 1960) is one of Australia’s leading young architects and is beginning to attract an international following for his spare industrial forms and innovative use of materials. Trained at the University of Melbourne, Godsell travelled through Europe and Asia in the early and mid 1980s and then spent 1986-1988 working in London with Sir Denys Lasdun. He subsequently returned to Melbourne to work for the Hassell Group and then opened his own firm in 1994. Featured in the Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary Architecture, Godsell is known primarily for his residential work, which employs economic means to maximum effect. In 2002, *wallpaper magazine listed him as one of the 10 people destined to "change the way we live." This is the first book to provide an overview of this innovative architect’s career

Leon van Schaik is a professor of Architecture at RMIT in Melbourne. In 2000, he was the curator of the Australian pavilion at the VII Biennale di Architettura in Venice.

Sus obras se caracterizan por una estética minimalista, abstracta e industrial que responde de forma radical al severo clima australiano mediante el uso de "pieles" arquitectónicas (paneles de madera móviles, lamas de acero y celosías) que regulan la luz y el aire. El libro documenta al detalle 23 proyectos y obras construidas clave hasta esa fecha, entre los que sobresalen: Carter Tucker House: Una icónica vivienda de fin de semana concebida como una caja de cristal pura forrada por paneles operables de cedro que se abren como aletas para transformar el interior en un estudio fotográfico iluminado por luz natural. Kew House: Una de sus residencias más premiadas de finales de los noventa. FutureShack: Un innovador prototipo de vivienda prefabricada de emergencia para refugiados o catástrofes humanitarias construida reutilizando contenedores de carga marítima.
