This guidebook covers the whole coast path along with many inland and riverside walks - all illustrated by detailed maps, instructions and photographs. The guide starts on the north banks of the Helford River where the gardens at Trebah and Glendurgan are famous for their many sub tropical plants. It then follows the coast to Falmouth with its rich maritime history and now home to the National Maritime Museum. Passenger ferries from Falmouth cross Carrick Roads to link with St Mawes, Trelissick Gardens, Malpas and Truro. Pendennis and St Mawes castles guard the entrance to the great natural harbour of Carrick Roads. Take a your car on the King Harry Ferry and explore the Roseland peninsula treating yourselves to a cream tea in St Mawes or choose a secluded beach for a sunbathe and a swim. Here too, the sheltered valleys host gardens such as Tregothnan, Heligan and Caerhays.
FRIENDLY GUIDES was set up in 1992. Partners Neil Reid and Caroline Schanche were both born and brought up in Cornwall. Much of the information in the guides is based on their own favourite places and on great days out with children, families and friends. A business that started with a hand drawn map of the Isles of Scilly has now grown to become Cornwall s leading publisher of guidebooks. The idea for the business is simple - we set out to provide the best possible photos, maps and writing for visitors and locals. Using our books should be like going for a walk with a well-informed and entertaining friend.
