À propos de l?auteur

Top botanist Dr Trevor Dines has been finding and mapping wild plants for over 30 years. Having gained a PhD in botany, Trevor became a key author of the New Atlas of the British and Irish Flora, one of the biggest natural history surveys ever undertaken. This ongoing project involves the mapping of millions of wild plants, the findings of which are of vital importance in his day-to-day work for Plantlife, the conservation charity that is protecting and speaking up for wild plants.

Lichenologist Sally Eaton has an eye for detail. Armed with her microscope and hand lens, she reveals a vibrant but tiny world right under our noses. Her interest in ecology and an MSc in plant classification and biodiversity help her find life in some of the least likely spots. Sally is currently a research assistant at the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh, chair of the Education and Promotions Committee of the British Lichen Society and a trustee of the Species Recovery Trust.

RHS Show Garden gold medallist and landscape designer Chris Myers continues a lifelong passion for the outdoors as he rummages around the countryside on the hunt for Wild Things. Since his childhood days in Yorkshire, Chris has had a passion for discovering what's growing where in the wild. His discoveries in nature have strongly influenced his show garden designs, which have seen him winning gold and 'Best in Show' at some of Britain's most prestigious show garden events.

À propos de la quatrième de couverture

The Wild Things are here - and their mission is to unlock the mysteries behind the ever-changing distribution of wild plants in Britain. This ground-breaking and informative book will transform the way we look at the natural world around us and provide a crucial picture of the shifting landscape in Britain over the last fifty years.

Your guides through the fascinating world of Britain's flora are award-winning landscape gardener Chris Myers, top botanist Dr Trevor Dines and lichenologist Sally Eaton. Using unique plant distribution maps as their starting point, they share their discoveries about how the change to our plant life is impacting on biodiversity on both a local and national scale.

Along the way, they will find out how what is happening in the natural world affects our everyday lives. For example, could Britain be running out of juniper berries with which to make gin? Could our national tipple, the gin and tonic, be under threat? Juniper bushes are disappearing in much of England and Wales and even the healthy Scottish plants are fighting a constant battle. The Wild Things Guide to the Changing Plants of the British Isles will help uncover the reasons for these developments.

This beautifully illustrated book explores how the spread of plant life has evolved in habitats ranging from mountains to woodland to roadsides. It will inspire you to look at the world around you in a completely new way.
