This book began as a series of lengthy and memorable interviews that David Joy had with Fred Trueman in the first half of 2006. They were intended to form the basis of a collection of his humorous tales of life on and off the pitch. "Trueman's Tales", the title originally envisaged for the book and the one agreed with Fred, has been retained.
