Jock Sprockett s creator is the author John Irving. He was inspired to write after noticing the lack of entertaining reads for children; John says In my job as a salesman, I have often been required to visit schools. Whilst waiting to see the head teacher, I would read some of the children s books; I found many of the stories to be quite dull, and felt that it would be something of a chore to have to read these to children. It occurred to John that in order to get parents motivated to read with their children, the content of the books would have to appeal to adults too, and so he set himself the challenge of writing children s books that would excite young children whilst also encouraging parental involvement in developing literary skills. The book also includes some fabulous illustrations to keep children of all ages engrossed.

Jock Sprockett has travelled the world collecting the most amazing stories and meeting some eccentric characters along the way including Hector the Haggis who is unable to run in a straight-line and who works at a fairground in Glasgow, and Professor Bottlebrain, who invents a rocket to take him to the moon.
