Today it protects through ownership, management and covenants around 252,000 hectares (623,000 acres) of land. Richard Mabey is the author of the ground-breaking Food for Free and Flora Britanica, the definitive guide to wild flowers, plants and trees. He also contributes regularly to the Independent, the Times, the Guardian and the Countryman. He is a director of Common Ground and a former council member of the Nature Conservancy Council. He lives in Berkshire. Joe Cornish has worked on many books including In Search of Neptune for the National Trust. His customer list includes publishers, magazines and organizations like the Countryside Commission. He lives in Yorkshire. David Noton's specialist areas are landscape, nature and travel, with clients that include the BBC Natural History Unit. He has won awards in the landscape categories of the British Gas/BBC Wildlife Photography Competition. He lives in Dorset. Paul Wakefield works mainly in advertising. He has collaborated with Jan Morris on landscape books of Wales, Scotland and Ireland. In 1997 he was given the Gold Award by the Association of Photographers. He is based in London.
