Revue de presse

Have you ever come across a book that fundamentally changed your understanding of a subject? Flagging the Problem: A new approach to mental health is such a rarity. It is a superb book. It explains mood disturbances in a fresh and accessible way. I cannot recommend it highly enough, in particular to those travelling the lonely journey of mental illness, and their families. --The Irish Times

It's that rare thing - a medical book that can be read by lay people and health professionals alike. Dr Barry demystifies subjects that touch so many of our lives and he does so with compassion, wisdom and vast professional knowledge. --author Cathy Kelly

Having read Flagging the Problem, I now have a much better understanding of why Niall died. This book is written in very simple terms, exploring the complex nature of depression and suicidal tendencies. It is a 'must read' for every parent, informing them of the tell-tale warning signs of depression and suicide. --John, father of Niall, who died by suicide in 2002

Présentation de l'éditeur

As Irish society undergoes rapid change and the pace of modern life seems everfaster, it is unsurprising that the issue of mental health has become more prominent and, thankfully, somewhat more openly discussed - and the provision of treatment better and more widely available. Flagging The Problem : A New Approach to Mental Health. is made up of five main sections. Each section marked with a coloured flag represents a particular mental state or area of concern: Green Flag explains the normal mood system, the Red Flag deals with depression, the Yellow Flag addresses anxiety, the Purple Flag deals with addiction and the White Flag which addresses the issue of suicide. There is a technical section, and extra appendices at the end of the book including information on self-help groups, and a list of commonly used medicines.
