Gill Furze is a nurse who practised for many years in medical rehabilitation and cardiac care and prevention, and is currently Senior Research Fellow at the British Heart Foundation Care and Education Research Group at the University of York. Bob Lewin pioneered the use of cognitive behavioural self management programmes in cardiac illness more than 20 years ago, developing and evaluating The Heart Manual, a programme now in use in many settings in the UK and overseas. He is currently Professor of Rehabilitation at the University of York and Director of the British Heart Foundation Care & Education Research Group. Jenny Donnison is a clinical psychologist with an interest in cognitive therapy. She has an interest in health psychology and the impact of chronic health problems on psychological wellbeing, for example through involvement in projects on coronary heart disease, asthma and diabetes.

The book will not equip the reader with an in-depth knowledge of psychological theory, but instead provides background knowledge and theory of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and how it can help to give people a positive approach to living with their condition.
