Synopsis

A popular, charming picture book about the importance of memories, identity and knowing who you are. This thoughtful book, suitable for any child in any situation, explores the importance of memories – both good and bad – and how sharing those memories can reassure a child and build their sense of who they are. Elfa the elephant carries a heavy box on her back everywhere she goes, although sometimes it makes her hot and tired. It carries her memories, and she is scared of losing them. None of the other animals seem to notice or ask what is inside. But when she finds a friend, Elfa discovers that sharing her memories can brighten her day with the good ones, lessen the weight of the bad ones, and help her develop her understanding about life and who she is. The book is ideal for life story work therapy with children, but also for general use. This helpful picture book comes with a booklet for adult readers, to help guide them to get the most out of the story when reading with a child.

Elfa the elephant was in a bad mood. It was a hot day, and she was carrying a box on her back. It was really heavy and felt very uncomfortable. Elfa carried it on her back everywhere she went. She never took it off because she was scared of losing it. But even though it was a beautiful, shiny box, none of the other animals ever seemed to notice or ask what was inside... They didn't know that in it Elfa kept her most precious things - her memories.
