The 11th in the series of Kaffe Fassett's highly successful patchwork and quilting books from Rowan is photographed in romantic Port Meirion, the Welsh village well-known for Clough-Elliss dramatic Italianate architecture and pastel painted walls which are the stunning backdrop for the 20 new quilt designs from Kaffe and his chosen designers. Rowan are unique in producing fabulous fabrics and patchwork and quilting books in which a team of quilt makers led by Kaffe Fassett design a collection of quilts using their fabric collection. The books are not about tricky piecing but the joyous use of unexpected colour stories. The quilts present tradition newly interpreted for a modern twist. It works rather like a cookery book: a sumptuous photograph of the finished project plus an ingredients list and written instructions illustrated with coloured diagrams, plus a 'flat shot' photograph and all the templates.
Kaffe Fasset settled in England in 1964. Further to a trip to Scotland he stumbled on an irresistible collection of coloured yarns. A few months later he was hooked and proceeded to knit and stitch himself a career. Hes exhibited at the V&A museum in London and is highly regarded knitting, patchwork and needlepoint books. He live in London. Kim McClean, the Australian quilt designer and teacher is specially featured. Kim has a formidable reputation for designing amazing appliqued quilts. She tells of her life and work - a fascinating read.
