ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1986). (1888) 1986 3rd edition. 8vo (147 x 206mm). Ppxii,202,ads. B/w line drawings, Greener's catalogue to rear, pictorial end-papers. Blue boards, gilt hammer-gun motif to upper board, spine titled in gilt. Sight use/ lean to spine but clean. Very good in slightly spine-faded dust-wrapper. A reprint of the revised second edition of 1891, including the catalogue of Greener's shotguns and equipment at the rear. William Wellington Greener lived through the era which saw the development of the bolt-action rifle and the breech-loading shotgun in their modern forms. Greener "devoted himself completely to the development and improvement of the modern breech loading gun. He was quick to recognise, adopt and promote the most up-to-date gunmaking practices. Bold, resourceful, self-opinionated to the point of arrogance in all his writings, W.W. Greener left an indelible imprint on the British gun trade. Guns bearing his firm's name are strong, stylish, well made and distinctive. His literary career outstripped that of his father and such was the popularity of his books most, it must be said, unashamedly advertising Greener wares, that more than one was produced in nine editions." Chapters include: The gun: Historical; Descriptive; Analytical; Technical; Specifical; Critical; Practical. Ammunition and accessories: Gunpowders; Shot; Cartridge cases and wadding; Gun cases and implements. Trap shooting: Live bird shooting; Inanimate targets. Appendix: 'Sterling' steel gun barrels; The shot counting trowel; The 'Giffard' gun. . N de rf. du vendeur 24976
