Routine and structure are really important for small children. Predictability always reduces anxiety and so the more children know about what to expect the easier they find things and usually the less tantrums they have. The Off We Go series of books provide a great, visual and easily understood, explanation of what to expect from a range of daily-life activities. These books will be helpful for any young child, not just those with special needs, to give them a better sense of what to expect and thereby reduce any anxiety. Because the books are designed to be read with your child it provides a good opportunity for warm interaction and could be a spark for lots of discussion we all need opportunities like these to build strong relationships with our children --David Coleman - Clinical Psychologist
These books, in my opinion are a must have for any parent who would like their children to feel secure and have a level of understanding as to what will happen next. They are great books and all kids will enjoy them. --Shine Ireland - The Autism Charity - A Parent's Review
Different teachers have come to me to say just how fantastic the books are. They say the pictures are clear and attractive and with just the right amount of detail. There is just the right amount of language, which is pitched just right for our kids --Marion Dunn teacher, Campsie View Special School Glasgow
I created the Off We Go! Series of books for my own son who has a severe developmental brain disorder. I got expert input from teachers and speech and language therapists, who advised me that many other children would also benefit from them. Each book breaks down the task into a 12 step sequence using simple clear pictures. Many books of this kind tend to have busy pictures with a lot going on in them; whereas the pictures in my books are clear, uncluttered and use contrasting colours. This is especially important for children with special needs, who can find it hard to understand a busy picture and have difficulty discriminating colours. I have included in each book a guide describing how to use the books to help de-sensitise and support children with sensory difficulties.
