James Marriott wrote Horror Films (Virgin Books), which was selected by The Times as one of their best film books of 2004. He penned many essays and articles on the horror genre, most recently contributing to The Exorcist: Studies in the Horror Film (Centipede Press, 2012) edited by Danel Olsen. He co-authored Horror: The Definitive Guide to the Cinema of Fear (Carlton Books, 2006) with Kim Newman, updated in paperback in 2010 as Horror! 333 Films to Scare You to Death. James Marriott died suddenly in July 2012, aged 39.
