Born in Bristol in 1965, Damien Hirst studied at Goldsmith s College. In 1988 he curated the now renowned exhibition, Freeze, held in London. In 1991, he had his first solo exhibition in London entitled In and Out of Love and the following year he was a major part of the groundbreaking Young British Artists exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery. He was awarded the prestigious Tate Gallery Turner Prize in 1995. Hirst s work has been shown in many important group and solo shows throughout the world and he is one of Britain s most celebrated living artists. He lives and works in Devon and London. As well as writing on contemporary art and until his death in July 2009 Gordon Burn s fiction explored the darker sides of celebrity and the point at which fact and fiction met in the lives he depicted. Nothing Matters includes a long in depth interview by Gordon Burn. Rudi Fuchs is an art historian who since 1974 was director of museums in Eindhoven, Turin, The Hague and Amsterdam. He has organised numerous major exhibitions and was artistic director of Documenta 7 in 1982. He is an authority on modern and contemporary art and is now an independent writer. He has published widely in catalogues, newspapers and magazines. He lives in Amsterdam and Norfolk.
