Supporting Children's Social Development is a practical guide to how you can support children's friendships in the early years. It reflects the EYFS and Emotional Learning's (SEAL) focus on supporting children's social development. This innovative title covers three core themes, which centre on understanding relationships between young children: knowing how young children form close relationships with each other, exploring an appropriate role for adults in supporting young children to make close relationships with each other, and the role of leading good practice: helping staff and parents to understand the key issues around supporting children's social development. Each section provides links to current practice, focus for reflection, real-life examples and bite-sized chunks of practical advice on how to promote positive relationships.
There are good, relevant links to practice through the use of case studies. In particular, the 'friendly or friends' piece on p35 was a good account which is very useful to the students. This is an excellent reference guide which I will recommend to the library and add to student reading lists --Gillian Ellis, Lecturer , Cheadle and Marple 6th Form College
