Synopsis

Winner of the Ted Slade Award for Services to Poetry, Geoff Stevens writes of islands, both metaphorical and real. His poems provide a transfusion to the isolated in both aspects. It s about getting away from it all, or back to a life that was. It s about geographical islands visited and the self as an insular person. The divides can be calm or stormy and are presented in his unique style. The poetry is exciting and evocative. He has an ability to show the familiar in an unfamiliar way, to make it new, and bring insights into his poetry that makes each poem fresh and innovative. One reviewer has written: If you decide to buy a copy of this collection then make sure you have a lot of time free because after reading it, such is the power of Stevens to evoke images of the places, you will be filled with the desire to travel and experience them for yourself.
