"In Cymberie Maggie Freeman creates a meticulously researched and richly imagined historical world. Freeman is a writer of lush sensuality and this story of an extraordinary contract is the perfect vehicle for her talents." --Kathryn Heyman
Maggie Freeman has the ability to draw the reader into the lives of her characters in this immensely strong story of a poverty-stricken young woman caught up in the existence of an aristocratic family and her struggle to come to terms with their world. I found "Cymberie" an absorbing, deeply convincing novel, full of real people living in their time. A story that stayed in my mind long afterwards. --Elizabeth Lord
Hugely enjoyable, a compelling and tenderly written story about a woman's struggle to survive and find her path. Cymberie is rich with sights, scents and surprising details conjuring a past age in rural landscapes that are timeless." --Frances Galleymore
Maggie Freeman teaches Creative Writing in Adult Education in Essex, where she has lived for thirty years. Cymberie is set in a semi-fictional landscape based on countryside that she knows well. Maggie has written two children s novels The Spaceball (A&C Black) and Danger! Space Pirates (Hodder & Stoughton) and, primary literacy non-fiction for Collins and Oxford, on subjects as diverse as improving the environment, castles, scaffolding and Archimedes, and it was doing the research for these that first got her hooked on doing historical research.
