They swarmed into the shop, fast, hard and ruthless like a pack of rabid wolves. Three of them, all young men – of course – two brandishing handguns, a third wielding a baseball bat. They had picked their time well, with no other customers in Dalvinder’s little pawn shop, just the owner and his wife; they came in at the most vulnerable moment they could, clearly having kept the shop under observation beforehand. They struck just as the owner stepped out from behind the security counter onto the shop floor and started to help his wife rearrange the window display. It could not have been better timed. These boys were good.
